It all started with a painting class with friends. I really wasn’t that interested in learning how to paint, but I wanted to be with them. At the very first class it was as if a lightbulb turned on. I couldn’t believe how much I loved it! I have spent most of my adult life building, remodeling and decorating houses, not to mention raising three children. So when I discovered painting just as my youngest was going off to college, I knew it was a gift from Heaven! I started with landscapes and florals, but after living and studying in New York City, my love for abstracts was confirmed.
Celebrating the colors, shapes and movement of God’s creation is what inspires me to paint. Using an intuitive process, I relish the freedom to create with abandon, through vigorous mark making and vivid, abundant color. Mixed media, collage and random hardware store implements are my “tools of the trade” to create pieces that are either organic or geometric in nature, but always colorful.
I love to problem-solve and abstracts give me lots of practice! Yet it still gives me such a feeling of peace and calm. It is my hope that I reflect my Christian faith well throughout my life and my art, and that my paintings will bring you a sense of joy, wonder and freedom!
You will find me painting either in my Atlanta home studio or in the mountains of Western Carolina at Skylight Farm. There’s lots of inspiration to be found watching turkeys, black bear, deer, honey bees and wildflowers swaying in the wind - such a place of solace for me.
